Volunteering 2014?

If you have not heard 2014 was not a great year for volunteering. In the overall outlook this was a year when people for some reason gave less of their time to stepping in to help others as part of established organizations. See the following article as one example of what has been reported. http://www.usnews.com/news/blogs/data-mine/2014/02/26/volunteering-hits-lowest-rate-in-more-than-10-years

The Lord Jesus said in John 13:35
“By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

One organization this past year had a increase in volunteering, Voice of the Mytars.

The VOM organization had an increase of 2,847 hours of help from others. This would be 71 people giving 40 hours of their time to help them. The VOM organization serves to minister to Christians who are being persecuted around the world. What a great way to give, to love, to share, to help those who are being bullied, silenced, separated from their families, for believing in Christ. Much like the apostle Paul who in 1 Thessalonians 3 wrote “When he could stand it no longer” he then acted, moved, to help believers who were being afflicted.
What will we do in 2015? What will we do out of love because we could stand it no longer? I pray God will open our hearts this year to think beyond ourselves and to demonstrate the greatest character trait of all, LOVE. Be Like Jesus today, Love somebody.
